It can be acute or chronic in duration, and the quality of the stools can tell us whether it is from the small intestine or the large intestine, so they can be watery, with possibly undigested food residue, in a large amount, or a small amount that's bloody or mucous. It is not uncommon for it to occur at inconvenient times and places, adding to the stress and uncertainty, and in the case of a persistent problem, it can also weaken the function of the sphincter muscles, further reducing the sense of comfort and a loss of control over bowel movements can develop. In such cases, daily routines, the ability to work, social life, relationships and self-esteem are also seriously affected.
Temporary, recurring diarrhea in similar situations, looser stools, repeated defecation are very common in the daily lives of perfectly healthy people, when faced with stress, excitement, tests, exams, situations with uncertain outcomes or previous bad experiences in similar circumstances, i.e. when we don't feel safe. The autonomic nervous system, in response to the excitement, gives instructions to 'lighten up' in the emergency situation, to make it easier to 'flight'. But of course, we do not flee, instead we go to exams, job interviews, medical examinations, face difficult situations at work, in our family and other human relationships, etc., so the symptom recurs again and again, because the trigger is also repeated.
There is a category for diarrhea of infectious origin, which resolves after the pathogens are identified and treated. The most common conditions associated with chronic diarrhea are irritable bowel syndrome (we have a separate article about that), and diarrhea caused by digestive disorders, e.g. if the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes, having done gastrectomy, lactose intolerance, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, celiac disease, colon polyps, tumours, hormonal causes, food allergy, other rare causes. Painful bowel movements, sometimes symptoms of other bowel/rectal diseases may appear, along with bloating, abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort, rectal distension, bleeding.
It is very important to take a holistic approach to unraveling what is behind diarrhea, to look thoroughly at your daily routine in terms of lifestyle, diet, stress. If there is no life-threatening condition that requires medical intervention, incorporating changes to your daily life to support abdominal organ function, blood circulation and nutrient supply, and improving the condition of the perineal muscles and anal sphincters can be a short- and long-term solution. The rehabilitation of the sphincter muscles is essential due to the increased stress, which gives a great sense of security to those affected. Experts have found that the Kriston Intimate Training complex approach and exercises can support their patients in how to do things differently. It offers suggestions, providing the ability to recognise the ‘script’ of a symptom, which the doctor cannot do or change for the patient. In the sessions, after collecting the sometimes diverse causes of your complaints in a systematic way, comes the recognition of what you need to change in order to achieve results.
What only you can do for yourself, cannot be replaced. These are the things you can learn in the Kriston Intimate Training sessions. We will learn habits to protect the lower abdomen, we will look at the ‘scripts’ that, if changed, can bring a different outcome. Insecurity, anxiety, nerve related diarrhea ('my stomach is upset' feeling, 'I'm inflamed', 'I feel nauseous, I'm throwing up' from something, etc.) often go hand in hand, we'll look at what might be behind this. Nothing happens without a reason, this symptom can be remedied if we dig down to the roots. What you can achieve include: body-awareness/self-awareness, strong sphincter, improved bowel function, confidence, consciousness. This is what we can help You with, and we are looking forward to seeing you in our training sessions.
