irritable bowel syndrome
General description

A disorder of the digestive system, affecting 20% of the adult population. It can occur at any age, but symptoms typically first appear in young adulthood. It is found 2x more often in women than in men. Several causes are suspected in its background. It may seem like a trivial problem at the onset, but it can later become a feature of everyday life and can have a profound impact on quality of life due to its many consequences. The dynamics of bowel movements change, they may become slow, sluggish, difficult, labored or painful, and the consistency of the stools may change. In other cases, diarrhoea and bloating are the leading symptoms. The symptoms are more bothersome during the day.

Causes, symptoms

Pain, cramps and other painful sensations in the abdomen and stomach, which may be relieved after bowel movements. There is often a feeling of pressure in the abdomen, fullness, diarrhoea or constipation, or alternating between the two, stools may be variable in consistency, bloating and loud, audible bowel movements may occur, vomiting may occur. Non-digestive symptoms may also occur, such as depression, sleep disturbances, backache, headache. The symptoms are often triggered or aggravated by mental and physical stress and diet. Many affected people have high white blood cell count in their intestinal wall, indicating inflammation of the intestinal wall. Diarrhoea, frequent bloating and constipation place an extreme strain on the pelvic organs' suspensory connective tissues, the muscular plate of the pelvic floor. Rectal hernia, prolapse of uterus, bladder, other intestinal dilatations, damage to anus, rupture of anus. Excessive defecation is harmful to the gastrointestinal tract and can lead to the development of haemorrhoids. Increased straining may lead to failure of the anal sphincter to function properly, which may result in disturbance of wind and faecal retention. The permeability of the tissues and walls of the intestine is altered, and substances can be absorbed and enter the bloodstream from the intestinal contents which have no place there because they should have been eliminated in the faeces. Years or decades of unresolved constipation cause the cells of the intestinal mucosa to be constantly irritated by hard faeces, and the cells often react by inflammation and tissue proliferation. Constipation can be caused by insufficient fluid intake, low fibre foods, other dietary habits, sedentary lifestyle, pregnancy, poorly established bowel habits, but can also be a symptom of various diseases and anxiety. Medicines can also cause bowel movements to slow down. Psychological processes are also often behind diarrhoea.

Treatment

It is worth taking a holistic approach to resolving complaints, looking at your daily routine in terms of lifestyle, diet, fluid intake, exercise, bowel movements. It is important to eliminate or reduce the activities that put stress on the old tissues. Incorporating changes in daily practice to support bowel function and blood circulation to the abdominal and perineal tissues and organs, and improving the condition of the digestive and anal sphincters, can be a short- and long-term solution. According to medical observations, the only way to get rid of the symptoms for good is to identify the causes and eliminate them, or at least reduce their impact on our lives.

Experiences have shown that the complex approach and the movements of Kriston Intimate Training can support their patients in making targeted changes in their lives. These are things that the doctor cannot do for the patient. This is why proctologists, internists and gastroenterologists recommend taking the Kriston course. These sessions focus on the sometimes complex reasons for the development of complaints. Once identified, we will see what needs to change to achieve results.

Impact of the Kriston Method

The doctor cannot change our lifestyle for us, cannot take care of our fluid intake, diet, exercise, intimate exercise, or reduce tension. What only you can do for yourself, nothing else can replace. These are the things you can do in Kriston Intimate Training courses, where we learn about habits that protect the abdominal area, furthermore, you can take a look at the 'script' that you can change to change the outcome. Anxiety-constipation often goes hand in hand. We also look at what might be behind this. In times of stress - just think of an exam situation - a typical and appropriate reaction of our body is an increase in blood pressure, increased heart rate, frequent urination, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, increased production of intestinal gases, bloating, etc.

Nothing happens without a reason. These symptoms can be treated if the underlying cause is identified. As long as the cause remains buried without being identified, the symptoms will return because the underlying cause has not been eliminated. As well as teaching you a specific set of exercises to support your lower abdomen, organ function and gastrointestinal system, we can help you to recognise this. We look forward to seeing you.
