General information

What do we mean by a lack of sexual fulfilment?

A reduced libido or a complete lack of libido, is not an uncommon phenomenon in couples. Observations have shown that it happens in many relationships after having been together for a long period of time. It is twice as common in women as in men. This immediately shows that this issue can cause great tension between partners. The lack of orgasm can also drive a wedge between partners, no matter which partner is affected. The latter is experienced significantly more often by women for complex reasons. Orgasm, sexual pleasure, bliss, erotic pleasure, satisfaction are mostly intense euphoric experiences during sexual stimulation of the genitals, but it can also be the result of erotic fantasies, unusual stimuli, not only by stimulating the different erogenous zones. During orgasm, the body produces hormones that cause a pleasant physical and mental state that lasts for a shorter or longer period of time. Orgasms may be accompanied by involuntary body movements, sounds, changes in breathing, increased pulse rate, increased blood pressure. However, many women never or rarely reach orgasm during intercourse. Most women only have clitoral orgasms outside of the act, but others can have vaginal orgasms too. Women's orgasms can provide an extra boost to fertilisation, but their absence is certainly not contraceptive. During orgasm, the rhythmic contractions of the vaginal wall help the semen reach the cervix, so women's orgasms are not only ecstatic but also practical, and they can also have a stress-reducing, immune-boosting effect, leading to a more restful sleep. There is also evidence that it has positive pain relieving and mental health benefits. The lack of male orgasm can also deprive a couple of the chance to conceive. For both sexes, a lack of libido and orgasm can result in serious self-esteem problems.

Symptoms, causes

There are cases where there is no way to achieve orgasm. This can happen in both men and women. There is always a good reason for this, but it can have a significant impact on the relationship, which causes frustration and undermines self-worth. A woman's libido is influenced by the history of her relationship, her family life and the quality of communication with her partner, but it can also affect men, whose desire can be easily killed by habituation. Low libido can often be associated with a lack of emotional closeness or openness between partners. Whatever the age, it is important to identify the underlying causes. Stress, depression, previous negative sexual experiences or even organ problems can cause orgasmic dysfunction. Behind women's inability to have orgasms there may be feelings of inferiority, negative self-image, negative body image, previous sexual abuse, childhood sexual abuse, fear of losing control, difficulty adjusting in a relationship, inadequate relationship and sexual communication, and faking orgasms to please because they feel pressure to be ‘good enough’. Although fewer in number, orgasm-related disorders also occur in men. Causes include performance anxiety, sexual trauma, relationship problems, fear of unwanted pregnancy, guilt related to rigid religious beliefs, low testosterone, injuries, alcohol consumption, drug use, medication, porn addiction, etc.

Treatment

"It's all in your head", they say. It’s the same with orgasm. That is why it's so important to consciously look for the root of the problem. The ability to have an orgasm can be built up and developed, it is physiologically a given for all people with a healthy nervous system. Libido that is present or triggered is also a standard "factory" feature. If it doesn't work, it is a signal from the body that something needs to change. This may require the help of a professional, a psychologist, a sexual psychologist, self-awareness and sexual self-awareness.
